The Anti-Resolution January

False starts are expensive. Forced momentum is worse. Most January goals aren’t clarity, they’re guilt wrapped in ambition.

I always sprint into January.
New goals. New habits. Loud promises.

I did the opposite this year.

No resolutions.
No pressure.
No big declarations about becoming a new person.

I decided to do nothing new.

Part of this was not to force myself to send a newsletter all of January. I felt guilty. I felt pressure. But I stuck to it.

That wasn’t me slacking. That was intentional. I hope you took the time to slow down too—because the world is a weird place right now, and pretending it’s not doesn’t help anyone.

Breaks matter.
Pauses matter.
Rest isn’t falling behind.

As designers, we know this. You don’t rush into a solution. You sit with the problem. You let things settle. You resist the urge to ship just to feel productive.

January wasn’t a launch.
It was a reset.

No promises to break by February.
No habits to quietly abandon.
Just space to breathe.

Sometimes the most disciplined move is choosing not to move at all.
