Growing Without Leaving your Current Company
What am sharing is only relevant for those of you in a laaaaaarge company/business.
So, I’ve been at The LEGO Group for a long time—and I love it. While many people associate long tenure with stagnation, my experience has been the opposite. I’ve grown, evolved, and challenged myself, not by leaving the company, but by treating it as a vast ecosystem of opportunities. Instead of staying in one role or team, I’ve moved around within The LEGO Group, shifting between departments, teams, and responsibilities. Because of this, I don’t feel like I’ve been at one company for years—I feel like I’ve worked for five different ones, all under the same brand.
Break the Loyalty Trap & Avoid the Expertise Pitfall
Staying loyal to one company doesn’t mean sticking to the same role forever. I avoided the trap of becoming “too valuable” in one area by constantly seeking out new opportunities. Each move within The LEGO Group allowed me to grow without getting pigeonholed.
Make Your Work Visible & Build a Strong Network
Doing great work isn’t enough. I learned that quickly. I made sure people saw the impact I was making and built relationships across teams, not just in my own corner. That way, when I needed support, I had a strong network to back me up.
Know Your Worth & Take Control
The more I moved, the better I understood my value. I stopped waiting for someone else to tell me my worth. I negotiated for what I deserved and didn’t shy away from tough conversations that helped shape my path.
Stay Agile & Keep Evolving
Skills get outdated. Industries shift. I made sure to stay ahead of that by always switching it up. At The LEGO Group, I kept evolving, so I never felt like I was doing the same thing over and over.
Own Your Career Path
People wait around for the perfect mentor or moment. I stopped doing that. I took charge of my own growth, made the moves I needed to make, and owned my development.
Final Thoughts
You don’t have to leave your company to grow. At The LEGO Group, I’ve found that moving around internally is the best way to stay dynamic. The key isn’t leaving—it’s taking control of your own path and making bold moves from within.
