“What’s another cover letter ”
Let’s face it—most cover letters are boring. They’re cookie-cutter, full of clichés, and not memorable in the slightest. If you want your design cover letter to stand out from the sea of sameness, you’ve got to get creative.
First off, ditch the clichés. Skip the "I'm passionate about design" fluff. We all are. Get straight to the point. Why this role at this company? What unique value do you bring to the table? Show you’ve done your homework, and tell them why you’re the perfect fit.
Next, inject personality. Design is a creative field, and your cover letter should reflect that. I’ll tell you this—whenever I see a cover letter that’s different, that makes me smile, I always take a second look. Whether it’s a clever sketch, a cheeky comic, or an unexpected visual, creativity in your cover letter shows you’re thinking outside the box. If you make me laugh or feel something, I’m way more likely to look at your CV.
Then, show your impact. Numbers and results matter. Don’t just say, “I designed a website.” Say, “I designed a website that increased conversions by 20%.” Your work should speak for itself. Highlight the tangible results of what you’ve done.
Finally, keep it short and sweet. We’re busy people, and we’re skimming. If your cover letter is a wall of text, I’m out. Get to the point, show your value, and keep it concise.
So, what’s the secret sauce? A punchy intro, a dash of humor or personality, a sprinkle of visual flair, and a clear focus on your impact. If you make me smile and stand out, I’ll be looking at your CV in no time
Love,
Sid.
