Design is the outcome of iteration

DESIGN IS THE OUTCOME OF ITERATION. Breath deep. Close your eyes. And say it with me. Design is the outcome of iteration.

Perfection ends up being the worst enemy of countless designers. You’ve heard it a million times, but let’s be real—how many times have you tweaked a design just one more time before showing it to your team? Or held off on delivering a project because it wasn’t “perfect” yet?

Here’s the truth: perfection is a trap. And in design, it can kill momentum, stall creativity, and make you miss deadlines. The best designers know when to refine and when to ship it. And it’s the opposite of what the design process should be.

During early design phase - Don’t get stuck in “Pixel Perfection”

Some reminders -

Early in the process, perfection is a creativity killer. You don’t need to nail every pixel in the first draft. If you obsess over every tiny detail before getting feedback, you risk designing in a vacuum—and nothing great comes from that.

Design is iteration. The first version is just that—a version. The goal is to get your ideas out there, test them, and refine based on real feedback.

Progress beats perfection. A 90% finished concept with momentum is better than a 100% “perfect” idea that never sees the light of day.

Perfection is subjective. What you think is flawless might not even matter to the user. Focus on function and impact, not just aesthetics.

Feedback beats fantasy. Real users will tell you what works and what doesn’t. No amount of internal perfection will replace real-world data.

Think long-term. Perfectionism makes you focus on this project, this moment. Great designers think in systems—design something that works now and evolves later.

Am not saying don’t do incredible work. What I am saying is

Strive for Excellence, Not Perfection

The best designers don’t chase perfection—they chase impact. They iterate, they adapt, and they ship. So stop tweaking. Get it out there. Improve as a step in your process.

Perfection is a myth. Progress is real. Choose progress.

Love,
Sid.
