Be Stoic My Friend

I’m leading a new project with a fresh team, and let’s just say it’s a circus. The fancy term is “agile,” but let’s not kid ourselves—it’s chaos with a name tag.

Every designer knows the grind: endless deadlines, feedback that feels like a roast, and trying to create brilliance under pressure. That’s why I’ve leaned into Stoicism. Why? Because it keeps me sane and sharp.

“You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

Here’s my Stoic playbook:

1. Clarity in Constraints: Clarity comes from cutting out the noise. Nail the problem first. A clear goal keeps the drama to a minimum.

"First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do." – Epictetus

2. Feedback with Grace: Don’t take it personally—it’s about the work, not you. Use feedback to refine, not whine. Keep your ego out of the equation, and focus on improvement.

"If anyone can refute me—show me I'm making a mistake or looking at things from the wrong perspective—I'll gladly change. It's the truth I'm after, and the truth never harmed anyone." – Marcus Aurelius

3. Master Focus: Block distractions. Design like it’s a sacred ritual. In a world of distractions Commit to one task at a time. When designing, eliminate distractions and dive in fully.

Stoicism doesn’t just make you a better designer; it makes you bulletproof. Focused, calm, and ready to crush it—even in chaos.

"You must gather your mind within yourself, and from this self-collected state, perform whatever actions need to be done." – Seneca

Love,
Sid.
