“Creativity and Constraints ”

Creativity can thrive in constraints!

I’ll be honest: when I am given unlimited freedom, I sometimes loose focus, cause I can do anything! Why? Because there's no challenge. No limits. No pressure.

I always look at the videos at MrBeast — his insane videos are a prime example. He’s got crazy ideas like “I gave away $1 million” or “I built the world’s largest swimming pool,” but there’s always a limit. A time frame. A budget. And that’s what drives him to get creative. The constraints add to the excitement for the me.

As a designer, I’ve been there. At LEGO, we have tight constraints— designing within a theme, using no new bricks, or only having budget for 2 new bricks, or working within an age mark, and the list goes on. But those limitations? They force us to think outside the box. To add even more play. We get creative because we have to.

So, what can you take away from this?

Constraints can be fun. They make you even prouder of what you achieve than if you didnt have them… that’s what I find anyway.

Embrace the limitations. They push you to get more inventive.
