Outgrowing Your Role?

I think about this a lot!

Staying in the same design role for years is like wearing the same pair of shoes until they fall apart—comfortable at first, but eventually, they hold you back. You can only grow so much in one place. Even though I have been at LEGO for awhile myself, every 3 years I have sought, applied and gotten a new role in an entirely new dept or team. This always feels like I have left 1 company for another. It’s a great feeling. But also very scary! So I don’s say this lightly… BUT… do it!

Every new role brings fresh challenges, new people to learn from, and a chance to stretch your abilities. Don’t settle for the “safe” job. The best growth happens when you’re forced to adapt, solve new problems, and sharpen your skills.

As Epictetus said, “Progress is not achieved by luck or accident, but by working on yourself daily.” Growth happens when you embrace discomfort and seek out challenges that stretch your skills.

When you outgrow your role, you unlock a new level of potential. Changing jobs isn’t just about finding a better paycheck; it’s about pushing yourself to be the best version of you. Embrace the challenge. Take risks. You’ll never know what you’re capable of until you do.

Love,
Sid.
