“F* imposter syndrome”
Imposter syndrome? Yeah, that feeling like you’re just faking it, like any moment someone’s gonna bust you for being a fraud. Let me tell you—everyone feels it. Everyone. But here’s the deal: you’re not faking it. You’ve earned your spot, so stop pretending like you haven’t.
I am guilty of feeling that nagging feeling too, even after decades of leading projects, teams and delivering award winning products or a LOT in revenue… Here’s what I try to remember.
Owning my wins: I am here because I’ve earned it! So, stop brushing off your successes. When you land that project or get praised for your work, take a moment and feel good about it. You did that. You crushed it.
Forget the comparisons: It’s easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others. But their journey is not yours. Their path, their timing, their struggles—they’re not yours to own. Focus on your own growth, not someone else’s highlight reel.
Keep learning: You don’t have to have it all figured out. The more you learn, the more confidence you’ll build. Get curious. Keep evolving. The best designers never stop learning. I feel like a broken record, but this is why we are relevant, we can use all the time we have to keep learning.
So next time imposter syndrome hits, just remind yourself: you’re here for a reason. Keep doing the work, and let your results speak for themselves.
Go out there and crush it.
